Pet Care Tips
Caring for your pet is a daily commitment of love, time, and attention. Whether you have a dog or a cat, here are some essential tips to keep them happy and healthy.
✔ Show love & attention – Spend quality time with your pet every day.
✔ Regular vet visits – Prevention is always better than cure.
✔ Adopt, don’t shop – Consider giving an animal in need a loving home by adopting from the SPCA.
Dog Care
1. Nutrition & Hydration
✔ Feed your dog a high-quality food appropriate for their age, size, and breed.
✔ Always provide fresh, clean water throughout the day.
✔ Avoid harmful foods such as chocolate, onions, grapes, raisins, cooked bones, and anything that can splinter.
2. Exercise & Mental Stimulation
✔ Daily walks, playtime, and toys keep dogs active and stimulated.
✔ Mental stimulation is just as important—puzzle feeders, chew toys, and training games can prevent boredom and behavioural issues.
3. Healthcare & Grooming
✔ Keep up with vaccinations, deworming, and regular tick and flea prevention.
✔ Schedule routine vet check-ups.
✔ Brush their coat, clean their ears, and trim nails regularly.
4. Safety & Comfort
✔ Ensure your dog has a warm, dry, and safe place to sleep.
✔ Never leave your dog outside in extreme weather.
✔ Microchip and tag your dog for easy identification if they go missing.
Cat Care
1. Nutrition & Hydration
✔ Feed your cat a balanced, meat-based diet—cats are obligate carnivores.
✔ Always provide clean, fresh water. Avoid giving cats milk (especially cows milk) or dog food.
✔ Place water bowls away from food bowls—cats prefer separate water sources.
2. Enrichment & Exercise
✔ Provide scratching posts, climbing trees, and interactive toys to satisfy their curiosity.
✔ Engage your cat daily with teaser wands, toy mice, or laser pointers.
3. Healthcare & Grooming
✔ Keep vaccinations and deworming schedules up to date.
✔ Regularly check ears, teeth, and coat for signs of illness or parasites.
✔ Brush long-haired cats often to avoid matting and hairballs.
4. Litter Box & Hygiene
✔ Scoop the litter box daily and change the litter regularly.
✔ Place the litter box in a quiet, private area.
5. Safety & Comfort
✔ Keep cats indoors or provide a secure outdoor enclosure to protect them from traffic and predators.
✔ Sterilise your cat to prevent overpopulation and related health issues.
