Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at the SPCA is more than just giving your time — it’s about becoming a lifeline for animals in need. Every gentle hand, kind voice, and helping heart contributes to the rescue, recovery, and rehoming of animals who’ve known suffering. Whether you’re walking dogs or comforting a frightened cat, your compassion helps restore trust and hope. You don’t need experience — just a love for animals and a willingness to make a difference.
When & Where Can I Help?
We welcome volunteers during our office hours:
Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 16:00
Saturday: 08:00 – 12:00
Come to the SPCA office in Bloemfontein to register. Once signed up, you can return as often as you’re able — every hour counts. From hands-on animal care to general assistance or even behind-the-scenes help, we’ll guide you based on your comfort and availability.
What Can I Do as a Volunteer?
There’s a role for every kind of animal lover. You could:
• Walk dogs and help socialise them
• Play with, groom, and care for cats
• Help clean enclosures and prepare food
• Assist with fundraising and outreach events
• Offer admin or creative support (photography, social media, etc.)
• Support community education initiatives
You’ll be part of a team that truly values every act of kindness, no matter how small.
The Impact You Make
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the SPCA. Your time means the difference between fear and comfort, neglect and care, despair and hope. Many of the animals we take in have been abused or abandoned — and thanks to people like you, they learn to trust again. Your efforts help us stretch limited resources further and give every animal a better chance at finding a loving home.
