Why Adopt?
Give an Animal a Second Chance
Adopting from the SPCA not only changes an animal’s life – it changes yours too! When you choose to adopt, you’re giving a deserving pet a loving home while making space for us to rescue more animals in need.
Save a Life
Every adoption helps reduce the number of homeless animals and gives them a fresh start.
Cost-Effective
Adoption fees cover vaccinations, sterilisation, and health checks, making it an affordable way to welcome a new pet.
Health & Behaviour Support
Our animals receive medical care and behaviour assessments to ensure a good match for your home.
Combat Overpopulation
Adoption helps reduce stray populations and supports ethical pet ownership.
Understanding Our Mission
and the Reality of Animal Rescue
At the SPCA, our mission is to protect animals from cruelty, neglect, and suffering. Every day, we rescue animals from heartbreaking situations—abandonment, abuse, and environments where their basic needs were ignored. These animals don’t come to us from ideal circumstances; many have been seized through legal action or rescued from the streets.
We are not a pet shop or a hotel for animals. Adoption is not a transactional experience—it’s a life-changing commitment. When people come to “pick a puppy,” we gently remind them that adoption is about giving an animal a second chance, not finding the most convenient companion.
The Limits We Face
As a non-profit organisation, we receive no government funding. Our ability to care for animals depends entirely on donations, sponsorships, and fundraising efforts. While we do everything in our power to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome as many animals as possible, we cannot care for an unlimited number of animals.
We work hard to find loving homes for every adoptable pet. But some animals, due to severe health, trauma, or behavioural issues, are not suitable for rehoming. Others wait a long time without interest from potential adopters.
A Heartbreaking Reality
Because we have limited space, staff, and funding, we sometimes face the painful responsibility of humane euthanasia. This decision is never taken lightly and is made with compassion and respect. It allows us to prevent further suffering and to continue caring for those animals who still have the chance to find homes.
We understand this is difficult to hear—but it’s important that the public knows the harsh realities behind animal rescue. The more people choose to adopt, support, or donate, the fewer animals have to face this fate.
How You Can Help
By adopting, donating, or spreading awareness, you directly impact the lives of animals in need. Your support gives us the resources to rescue more animals, provide essential medical care, and work toward a future where every animal is treated with kindness and dignity.
